Local bars anticipating busy night despite snow
Some bars in Stevens Point are still hopeful to see lots of foot traffic tonight, despite the snow that created some unsafe driving conditions in Portage County.
"I'm expecting New Year’s Eve to be pretty good still. The weather is a little iffy," said The Hub owner Benjamin Louis.
With the snow, it's not exactly the New Year’s Eve that many people have in mind. But Stevens Point bar owner Benjamin Louis says he still expects people to be out and about.
“A lot of foot traffic is what comes downtown so the weather shouldn’t affect us too much,” Lewis mentioned.
"Yeah I think there will be more foot traffic you know? Which is a good thing; we don't want people driving if it's not good out," added Stevens Point resident Jack Ferrone.
Even though there might be plenty of foot traffic, the winter weather will still deter some people from driving in from other cities.
"Maybe in other places people would stay in, but in Stevens Point Wisconsin people are going to come out I think. Especially with Uber and Lyft and everything it's just easier to get safely home," said Drew Green who is a resident also.
For those who are still looking to ring in the new year at a bar or restaurant there are other options for you.
"The Tavern League offers a safe ride home. Which is you call them and they send a taxi out to get you. Normally that is $5, but tonight that is being taken care of by general beer," Louis explained.
People can use this program on New Year’s Eve by just asking the bartender. They can also download the "Drive Sober" app from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, which locates the closest ride options. There is also Lyft, Uber, or a standard taxi service.
