Jeff Thelen is the most veteran member of the Newschannel 7 team. The Campbellsport native started here as a part-time reporter in 1994 while working as news director at WDUX Radio in Waupaca.
In 1996, he worked at WFRV TV in Green Bay as a videographer and reporter, but was only there a few months before coming back to NewsChannel 7 as morning show anchor.
Jeff was moved to 6pm and 10pm anchor in 2001. A few years later he was also added to NewsChannel 7 at 5.
In 2007, Jeff was named Assistant News Director and left NewsChannel 7 at 10 to work more behind the scenes and on www.wsaw.com.
In 2009, Jeff was named Morning News Director and moved back to the morning show, Sunrise 7. During that time, the show expanded from a 5am start time to 4:30am.
In 2012, Jeff moved back to anchoring the evening newscasts, NewsChannel 7 at 5, 6 and 10.
He also runs the station's annual "Share Your Holidays" food drive to help the Salvation Army and Neighbor's Place food pantries. In its 16 years, NewsChannel 7 viewers donated nearly $720,000 and tons of nonperishable food to SYH.
Jeff has received awards for his work from the Military Reporters and Editors Association, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, the Wausau Police Department and Wisconsin Associated Press. He's also been nominated for three Emmy awards in the Chicago Region of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
He's self proclaimed couch potato, an avid Packer and Badger fan, and loves spending time with his family, friends and dog, Nala.
Jeff is also an amateur landscaper who will find any excuse he can to work on his yard.
